Charity auction Monday

My next charity auction for Mary's Meals will take place on Monday 21st on my Facebook page. I'm offering these three 100gram skeins of 8ply superwash merino (I think they look fab together!) 

The auction will start on Monday morning and finish up at 8pm. All you have to do is go to my page and bid, there will be a reserve price and you can go from there.

I hope we can raise some money for this beautiful charity!

Hand woven scarf charity auction

This scarf is hand dyed and hand woven from handspun yarn :) I've added a little beaded trim for a bit of bling. The scarf's weft is throwsters silk, which is a waste product from silk making. It has a firm, rather than soft or floppy hand. 

I'm auctioning the scarf on my Facebook page tonight at 8pm with all proceeds going to Mary's Meals - a very worthy cause. I hope you can make it, and if you're not on Facebook just contact me and I'll place a bid for you. Bidding starts at $25 AUD plus post ($8).

Alpaca scarf off the loom

This scarf was partly experimental and I found after starting to warp that my mental calculations were not sufficient - I ended up using twice the amount of yarn for the warp than I thought. But that's ok, these things happen :)

I wove with 4 colours - logwood brown, purple and pink/green using alpaca 8ply.

The scarf turned out very long and wide, almost shawl proportions. Perfect for Winter (not so perfect for modelling on a hot Autumn day!)

I'm going to make this my next charity auction item, starting on Friday at 2pm. The auction will be on my Facebook page with all proceeds going to Mary's Meals.

Charity auction

As I mentioned in this post, one of my aims for this year is to have a monthly charity handmade auction. I'm pleased to announce that my first auction will be at 8pm tomorrow night on Facebook.

I'll be auctioning 3x 100g skeins of this gorgeously subtle blue BFL (blue face leicester) 8ply superwash. I really love the soft and squishy factor of BFL!

Hottie Challenge

After much deliberation I've finished my cover for the Hottie Challenge!

I decided to use a piece of my hand dyed silk that I was keeping for something special. I used free motion embroidery to highlight the colours and patterns of the silk.

I also added beads and some hand embroidery.

The back is made with some of my hand painted fabrics.

I know it's a little "out there" but I really wanted to do something a bit different and reflect my love of colour and patterns.

This one is off to Curlypops Central, then to Open Drawer to raise money for the Margaret Pratt Foundation. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else has come up with :)

First Bonnie Babes parcel

Finally ready to go!  For anyone who doesn't know, Bonnie Babes is an organisation that provides support to families who have lost babies either due to miscarriage or stillbirth. A while ago I asked for fabric and other material donations on the Crafty Mamas forum and received many parcels of generosity. I still have heaps left over, so I'll be able to make many more burial gowns and blankets. Many thanks to all who have donated!

UFO or PFP?

The former being Unfinished Object and the latter being Partly Finished Project. I think I like PFP - it's a little more positive, more like a WIP (Work in Progress) and less like a FTF (Failure to Finish).

Whatever you choose to label it, I have 13 of them! Now, I know I'm not alone on this, and probably like me you avoid the fact that you have so many projects on the go at one time. It's your little secret, am I right?

As finances are a bit tight at the moment and I can't indulge in new materials I'm finding it a perfect time to finish off a few of those projects that had just been "put aside later" AKA "I've lost motivation and can't be bothered".

Here are a few things I'm working on:

Baby gowns and blankets for the Bonnie Babes Foundation. Some finished, many unfinished!

A cute waldorf softie doll (needs hair)

Embroidering vintage pieces (pure joy!)

Baby Mary Janes (need snaps).

The Bonnie Babes Foundation

I have joined the Bonnie Babes Foundation as a volunteer. I will be sewing burial gowns for families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or prematurity.

This is a practice gown I made today, I'll be making many more in a few different styles from my own patterns. Making dolls clothes has been a good preparation for this.

It brought tears to my eyes when I realised how tiny the gowns will be. I am so blessed to have safely delivered 4 healthy children. I have lost 2 babies to miscarriage at 10 weeks, but the burden seems very light compared to this reality. I hope my gowns will bring some sort of comfort to the grieving parents who receive them.
