Crafty Mamas get together

There were only a few of us but we had a great day. We met at Nat's quaint and lovely home where she has an upstairs room devoted to sewing (yes, we were jealous!)

Above you can see Nat and Claire hard at work on their dolls.

Zofia and I marvelled at Nat's beautiful sewing machine- computerized and so quiet and smooth.

Nat took to doll making like a duck to water.

Claire made a doll for her eagerly awaiting daughter.

We all determined it was a lot of fun and something to definitely do again.

Many thanks to Paul for his enthusiastic help with the children, he did a brilliant job.

It's terrible, so terrible!!!

No, not this - this is wonderful! Carolyn sent me these goodies as part of the CraftyMama's swap. Thank you Carolyn, I love it.
Now for the terrrible, terrible news (waits for hushed silence..) My washing machine, my long time friend and ally has given up on me. I'll admit that as my family has grown, so has the work load, but this is totally uncalled for. The words "newer", "bigger" and especially "better" have been floating around. The handwashing was a novelty for a short time, I imagined my ancestors toiling in a similar way (except they had to heat their water too!) and I even turned it into a game for the children (I swear Dame Washalot had an awful existence!) but after an hour my back was aching and I started to feel my time could be better spent. I've already started perusing the catalogues for a replacement (accompanied by the gasps of horror from my son when he sees the prices).

Baking Monday

Congratulations to Kylie, the winner of the Crafty Mamas October competition. She crocheted a cute tea cosy.

This morning was perfect for baking so I made bread and fruit buns. Its cool here today with a little rain. I will be going out shortly to plant beans while its not too dry.

Spick n' span day!

Every now and then I feel that I'm going to turn exremely insane if the house doesn't get into order. The proclamation "Its spick n span day!" can be heard (enthusiastically bellowed by yours truly) followed immediately by groans (from children).
The deal is - no schoolwork for the day, but you have to work in return!
The best part is that it is now the afternoon and I have time to blog, read to the children and hopefully sew up that pair of shorts that eldest daughter is desperate for.

A sneak peek

At what I've been working on for some Crafty Mamas competition prizes. Hopefully I'll finish by the weekend.







The kids have all been sick, the girls are on antibiotics for throat infections. Thankfully they're on the mend now, hopefully tonight I'll get some uninterrupted sleep, I'm pretty exhausted now!
DH is taking the boy to the snow tomorrow, his first time, very exciting. I'm looking forward to having some concentrated time with the girls. I'm going to try this carrot and banana cake recipe for them to take with them.

Wow, I'm so excited, my Cinderella doll won the March Crafty Mamas competition! I will be receiving a waldorf inspired handmade doll from Crafty Mama Lissylou. I can't wait to see it. Here is the doll that won. She is made and modified from a Brownhouse Dolls pattern.
