New woven garments

One of my new favourite pieces, this wrap just wove up beautifully. I used Australian 3ply merino and dyed a gradient of blues and purples for the warp.

Then a lovely teal-ish green for the weft.

This is the first time I've woven with 3ply and won't be the last! It worked up into this most beautiful, soft and light piece of cloth, I love it!

And this one - a 1/3 warp float pattern using a pastel gradient and a commercial grey merino, both in 4 ply.

The reverse side.

The front. I've also been putting my new fringe twister to work and have a video in the editing process on using a fringe twister, so look out for that one if that interests you.

Both of these pieces are available now in my Etsy shop. By the way, I am very blessed to have 99 sales in the shop now - I think hitting 100 will be a cause for celebration, perhaps a special giveaway?

This morning I dropped off this scarf to be judged for the Melbourne Show in the spinning and weaving scarf category. It's the first time I've entered my weaving into anything, so a bit nervous, but it's a good way to challenge myself.

Hope you're having a great week, if you're enjoying sunny weather and blue skies where you are, please send some here, Melbourne hasn't realised it's Spring yet!

Linking up with Yarn Along!

Too cheap craft and a princess in a pretty dress

Firstly, the little princess!

In her new summer dress - Miss Madeline pattern and fabric from a swap from ages ago that has been languishing in the cupboard.

I took one of the girls along to the annual Werribee Craft Festival for a look and was pleased to see it looking really well presented and a good variety of crafts on offer. Something that really surprised me though, was the prices many of the stallholders were selling their goods for. So cheap! Too cheap!

Having sold my own crafts I can't begin to figure out how these people can turn a profit. Which leads me to ask again - what is the difference between art and craft? For me they both run together in beautiful harmony, lending to each other and often indistinguishable. Both require skill, talent, money, time and can be really hard work! So why is craft perceived as something without value, while art pieces are sought after and highly paid for?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, perhaps you have a totally different view?

Happy weekend to you all, it's a beautiful day here :)

Quilting: From Little Things...

Cretacolor AquaStic Water Soluble Oil Pastels - 10 pc

I was really taken with the work that Kim Bradley does with Cretacolor pastels - just beautiful. The pastels, however, are very expensive!

I had set myself a budget but ended up spending very little as the miser in me tends to kick in and disallow frivolous or impulsive purchases. Some of the above may be attainable sometime. I did buy a little purse kit from Nikki's stall, a few more buttons to add to the collection I'm saving for my girl's treasure boxes and a little bit of fabric to make the purse. So now I have money left over to buy some nice batting for the Maisy quilt, which is coming along quite nicely thank you!

Happy and holy Palm Sunday to you all, I'm looking forward to a great Holy week.

Thinking cap on!

I've been inspired by Nic to stop making excuses as to why not and just enter the Melbourne Show Craft
Competition.  This morning I've been giving it some serious thought and started sketching.
I've always wanted to enter something like this but never really had the time (or maybe the confidence?)

So, at this stage I'm planning on entering a doll and a baby's toy. I'll keep you updated on my progress, methinks this will be fun!

The boy is going to enter the junior cookery section so our surname will be apparent in a few different sections. For those of you who know my surname you realise it is very easily recognizable and often the source of stranger's amusement. I'm not giving it away here, but think famous 17th century apparent lady's man and your'e on the right track.
